When Is the Norway Flag Flown? Build a Date-and-Time Card From Official Rules

Norway’s official flag calendar and daily times are published by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The regulation described on that page applies to flagging at state institutions; it should not be presented as a universal legal schedule for every private household.

Copy the official dates into a yearly card

The Ministry lists these fixed official flag days: January 1, January 21, February 6, February 21, May 1, May 8, May 17, June 7, July 4, July 20, July 29, August 19 and December 25. It also lists Easter Sunday, Whit Sunday and the day of parliamentary elections, whose calendar dates vary.

Build a card with columns for event, date this year and source checked. Look up the movable dates each year rather than carrying last year’s numbers forward.

Add the state-institution timing rule

For state institutions, the official page says the flag is raised at 08:00 from March through October and at 09:00 from November through February. It is lowered at sunset, but no later than 21:00. In Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, the November-through-February schedule shown is 10:00 to 15:00.

Write the region and month on the card so the special winter rule is not separated from its scope.

Keep official rules and personal practice distinct

The Ministry page says state institutions fly the state flag on official flag days and describes additional official occasions. A private owner should confirm the guidance relevant to their location and situation rather than treating this state-institution summary as individualized legal advice.

Source the card directly from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “Norges flagg”, last updated May 12, 2023, and recheck it before each new annual card.

The Norway Flag is the store’s current product reference. The product page does not replace official rules or determine when a flag should be flown.
